Are you Google mobile-friendly?

Did you know Google rolled out a global, mobile-friendly update on 21 April 2015? From that day forward, Google started to boost the rankings of mobile-friendly pages on mobile search results. This was not a secret. This was widely promoted. If your website is not mobile-friendly, then it needs to be and fast!

What is a mobile-friendly website? It’s a website which has been designed and developed to optimize its display on mobile devices. It means your web pages are easily read on a mobile phone, without the user having to tap, zoom or scroll.

How can I tell if my website is mobile friendly? Easy! Google has supplied a ‘mobile-friendly’ test. Check it out and see how your site goes. https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/mobile-friendly/

What does it mean if my site is not mobile-friendly? It means that competitor websites, which are mobile-friendly, will be ranked (found) easier than yours, when customers are searching for information on their mobiles. They will get more traffic. You will lose business.

The Stats. Google is the world’s top, most used search engine. Over 70% of the world’s searches are performed on Google. Google doesn’t like to release figures, but two years ago it said it performed ‘at least 1 trillion searches per year’. That’s over 3 billion searches each and every day! So, when Google says it will rank mobile-friendly web pages, you’d be a fool not to listen.

While the Google mobile-friendly update (which has also been referred to as ‘mobilegeddon’) was rolled in April 2015, some web owners are still in the dark about it. While others know, but have chosen not to respond.

The Facts. Google is the world’s #1 search engine. Mobile phones account for the largest % increase in search traffic being performed today. At last count, mobile searches outnumbered desktop searches. Mobile phones are not going away. Your website needs to be mobile-friendly to maximize its potential.
